You may have noticed over to the right a button for kelseyspurpose.org (“justice for Kelsey”). Yesterday, Kelsey Briggs’ mother, Raye Dawn Smith, was given 27 years for allowing her daughter to be abused to the point of death.
Personally, I think Raye Dawn is the one responsible, but 27 years in prison will ensure that she will never have any more children.
I’m keeping the button on my site, as well as the heart shaped sticker gracing the window of my car. It will serve as a reminder that child abuse is not tolerated and those who abuse children will be found out and prosecuted.
Please, don’t let this precious little girl’s death be in vain. If you know of someone who is abusing their child(ren), please call the authorities.
UPDATE 091007 1711CDT: Raye Dawn Smith, Kelsey’s mother, was formally sentenced to 27 years in prison today (10 Sept 07) for enabling child abuse which led to the death of her child.
UPDATE 091107 1758CDT: Of course. Raye Dawn’s new lawyer, Stephen Jones (famous, or infamous, for being Timothy McVeigh’s attorney), will appeal.
