Pet Peeve: cropped pants and ugly handbags August 13, 2007
I hate cropped pants (pedalpushers, clamdiggers, whatever the hell they’re called)!
It seems that someone got the great idea that all plus size women would look good in cropped pants. That’s all they sell at WalMart! Even the sweats are cropped.
I know I don’t look good in that style of pant. I have short legs, and cropped pants just don’t look right on me. I’m trying to be comfortable, not a fashion plate. I don’t care how “popular” they are, I’m not going to buy any just because they’re “in”.
There are no demin skirts. They have other skirts, nice flowing ones, but I have a couple of those already. It’s just the same skirt with different patters on them. Why do I need more than one or two? C’mon, I like variety! Please don’t make me go over to Quail Springs so I can shop at Lane Bryant. I love Lane Bryant, they have great clothes. I just don’t have the funds for Lane Bryant right now. I’m not 8 years old, I don’t need “school clothes”. I need new clothes that actually look good on me. Gotta pay for that, I guess.
And for the last couple years or so, it seems that ugly is in. I have seen some of the most hideous handbags I have ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on. It doesn’t matter if it’s WalMart, Target, or Macy’s… all the purses are gross!
Sometimes, I like to find nice shoes to go with a purse, and there is no way in hell that I am going to buy a pair of puke green or some awful shade of blue shoes just so I coordinate. Black works for me. I’ll stick to that. You always need a nice pair of black dress shoes. At least, I do.
I’ve always said I was built for comfort, not speed. Some low heeled pumps and a simple, but tasteful black purse are all I need to look dressy. I like jeans, sneakers, and t-shirts. I do clean up well, so if I need to be dressy, I can certainly do that. I’m not a clotheshorse like my sister, but I do all right.
That’s all from where I sit.

I want to know what all skirts seem to stop just below the knee! My calves are probably my worst feature–stubby and untannable–and I would like, for once, to be able to buy a nice, long, flowing skirt.
I’m with you on the dearth of denim skirts, too. The only ones I ever find are the straight ones or minis. Doesn’t the fashion industry know that A-line is the most universally flattering cut?!
I think I might have to take up sewing.
Oops. I meant “WHY all skirts seem to stop just below the knee.”
I usually proofread before I post! Sorry!
no problem, Mandy. I’ve done that too… thanks for stopping by!
I find that torrid is a good store, but they too are quite spendy they are tailered to plus size 14-26. I have to agree everything at Lane Bryant is ugly its all grandma stuff..
Trudy: I like Torrid too, and yes they are a bit pricey. They’re also rather youth oriented like its sister store Hot Topic. Every mall seems to have a Hot Topic store, but I’ve yet to see a Torrid store anywhere!
I’d like to check out Ashley Stewart, as I’ve bought things from them before when I lived in Virginia, but the closest one to me is in Dallas! I might be going to Dallas in a few weeks so we’ll see… thanks for stopping by!
