The real meaning of BFF* December 3, 2007

Today is the birthday of one of my mom’s oldest friends. Mom’s known Barbara since the 6th grade. So around twelve years of age.

They are both 78 years old.

Mom was the maid of honor at Barbara’s wedding… in 1950! And she’s still married to the same man! Unfortunately, Barbara’s husband has alzheimers now, and doesn’t remember much about anything.

Mom and Barbara call each other on their birthdays, send Christmas cards, and went to their 50th high school reunion in 1997. They declined the invite to the 60th this year. Who would be left… the three ladies organizing it and Mom and Barbara?

Now that’s friendship… one that lasts 60 some odd years.

BFF indeed.
