Stef’s Crazy Life

The (mis)adventures of me. Kids, kin, cars, life, love, pain and the whole damn thing! (any questions?)

What just happened? March 31, 2008

Last I checked, it was Friday afternoon and I was feeling pretty weird about a decision I had to make.

I made it, and my whole weekend took on a surreal, bizarre, and confusing quality.

I went out on a date (I know…I know: shocking) with a man I don’t know very well. It was just a late lunch out in town.

Or so I thought.

I ended up spending the better part of Friday, Saturday and Sunday hanging out with him. And, NO, nothing funny went on.

He’s just a nice guy who is quite a bit older than I am, and he just wanted to get to know me better. And again… nothing funny went on.

Without going into too much detail, there aren’t too many men like him out there anymore. It’s kinda sad that more men aren’t like that.

It seems all too surreal that this really happened.

But, it’s nice that I seem to have a new friend.

I’m so confused!

That’s all from where I sit.

I wanna jump outta my skin! March 28, 2008

And, in case you were wondering, no I’m still not feeling like myself.

I’ve been feeling jumpy and unsettled the last couple of days. Feeling like I’ve done something wrong to cause me to feel this way.

I’ve got to tell somebody about this. I started to tell someone about it, but the conversation got off on a tangent and I never got to finish my thoughts.

I can’t even concentrate on important stuff, like homework.

I just want this feeling to go away, but I don’t know how to get rid of it.

Talk to someone I guess… but who would listen to this silly drivel? At least I think it’s silly.

Then why do I feel so… afraid?

That’s all from where I sit.

“Hookers to Harvard” March 27, 2008

Every once in a great while, I get the same cab driver for several days in a row. He’s a nice guy, kinda on the gruff side, and apparently has been driving cabs for a long time. He’s lived here so long (probably his entire life), he still refers to where I go to school as Oscar Rose Junior College (or just “Oscar Rose”). The school became known by its current name, Rose State College, in 1983.

Anyway, today he tells me this story about a program that was in place about 20 or so years ago that he called “Hookers to Harvard”. It was aimed at getting prostitutes off the streets by providing them with a free education. Books, tuition, fees, etc., were taken care of. Even the cab fare to and from campus was paid for! The idea was that if the “working girls” could get a college education (or a GED), then they could get better jobs, give up the life on the streets, and be “legit”.

The program apparently didn’t work out as people would have liked. The girls would stay in school maybe 6-8 weeks into the semester, get bored and drop out. Of course, they went back out to the streets to do what prostitutes do.

So much for the free education!

NOTE: Stef is not herself today March 27, 2008

I had a weird and somewhat unsettling experience last night. I’ll get over it here in a day or two.

So pardon me if I’m a little out of sorts today.

Move along, nothing to see here.

This grrl isn’t slacking (far from it) March 26, 2008

I work my ass off trying to keep this all together… the homework, the job, my sanity…

Though some days, the sanity is the first thing I fear will go. However…

I’m keeping up with the classwork, the homework, the running to and from everywhere. And, it’s been absolutely worth it!

I must be doing something right, I’ve made the Honor Roll every semester, so I’m keeping my GPA up…

I’m working, more or less, and I might have another job lined up. It’s the getting there that I’m concerned about now.

I’m not doing too badly, thankyouverymuch.

So there! *insert raspberry here*

That’s all from where I sit.

I’m probably going to get hate mail for saying this, but March 25, 2008

I saw the Jonas Brothers on the Dancing with the Stars results show tonight, and I don’t think they sing all that great.

What’s so bleepin’ great about them anyway?

I guess I have to be a twelve year old girl to figure that one out. And darn it all, I don’t have any 12 year girls to ask.

Any tweener girls out there want to clue this mom of 4 boys in? Hmmm?

=====

Speaking of “DWTS”, two couples got voted off tonight. And as much as I would have liked to see Penn Gillette stay, I knew he had to go. He was fun to watch, though.

Monica Seles and her partner got voted off, too.

The one that impresses me is Marlee Matlin. She can’t hear the music, but she nails it musically. She and her partner (whose names escapes me at the moment. This is his first season, though) figure out the ways that will work for her, and then they get it done!

=====

I’ve got Rihanna’s “Shut Up and Drive” running thru my head. Just thought I’d share.

=====

I like IMs; really, I do. But lately, I just want to talk to people face to face. IMs lack the emotion that talking with someone in person has. Especially, if the person likes to joke around. I can’t hear the sarcasm, or the tone of voice, or observe the body language in an IM. Sometimes, it just frustrates me!

Yay! LOL

My webcam and the microphone work. Maybe I’ll start posting video blogs, too… who knows!

That’s all from where I sit.

Maybe I should stop calling it “my friendly neighborhood Wal*Mart” March 25, 2008

Because they treat their employees like crap. This is just a prime example.

Read the article. Then speak out and repost it on your blog, myspace, facebook. I got this from one of my myspace friends, a man I used to work with at the Virginia call center that shall remain nameless.

Easter with the family… or a trip to the “dirt” March 24, 2008

There’s something about my sister’s house that makes me so sleepy.

Anyway, Daniel came to fetch me around 10pm on Saturday night (after I called him that morning to ask him to come get me) and I spent the night at Mom’s house.

The next day, we went over to Tori and Dean’s for Easter Lunch… we had corned beef (”and now for something completely different” went thru my head), homemade bread, a ton of veggies, and salad. It was good, but I was still hungry about two hours later.

Amalia and Joey went to hunt Easter eggs after the “Easter Bunny” called and told their mom that there were 55 eggs in the front yard. One egg had money in it (and the older kids lamenting that they were too old to hunt eggs). Amalia found the egg with the money (all of $5, but that’s a lot to a 9 year old), and Joey was still looking for the one egg that hadn’t been found. Turns out that it was on the bumper of Mom’s van, and wasn’t discovered until we got ready to go to the “dirt”.

Tori and Dean are having a new house built (they’ve had the land for like 5 years now), and we all went over there to see the progress on the house (it looks like a house, but it’s far from finished). There is a lot of dirt there, and getting dirty seemed to be a must.

I took a lot of pictures for my photography class while I was there. Jeff, Scott and Marc even consented to have their pictures taken, and they hammed it up appropriately. Amalia found a pile of dirt in the “backyard” with a wooden dowel stuck in it. The dowel was about 6′ tall and had a piece of sheet metal stapled to it like a flag, so Amalia stood on the dirt pile and claimed it in “the name of Amalia”. I took a picture of that. It was cute. If it looks halfway decent when I process the film, I’ll mount and frame it and give it to her parents.

I didn’t finish the roll of film though. I think I had 4 exposures left when we finally left the construction site (which has an actual street address!). Shortly after we got back to the house, Mom wanted to go home. Jeff decided that he wanted to go home, too (he usually stays and Dean brings him home later). Daniel missed everything because he had to work.

Mom, Jeff and I were still hungry after we got back to Mom’s house, so we went to IHOP near UCO for dinner.

Daniel was supposed to take me home after he got off work, so when he finally did get home, it was apparent that the last thing he wanted to do was to take his mom home to her apartment in the ‘hood, so he went to Tori’s to use her computer to put songs on his iPod.

I ended up spending another night at Mom’s… and the rest of that story is in the previous post.

Next weekend, it’s Jeff and Dean’s birthdays (both on 3/30) and Joey’s is the 31st. That may turn out to be a big birthday bash because both Amalia and I had the flu on our birthdays last month and didn’t get to do the family dinner thing then.

Saturns, Saturns everywhere March 24, 2008

and not the one I’m looking for! LOL

Well, back to school and all that. Got to Photography and the instructor isn’t there, so I went out to shoot the rest of the roll of film I started yesterday while we were visiting the “dirt” (as my nephew calls it) that will be Tori and Dean’s new home (under  construction)… more on that later (it’s a whole post of its own!).

Just for shits and giggles, I IM’d someone (via my phone) and asked if they were free for lunch since I suddenly had two hours of time, and they were going elsewhere. We ended up having this long conversation (oh! my poor minutes!), and they still weren’t going to be able to join me for lunch after all.

Bummer! Only I could lose out to chickens and goats!

On the way back to school, it seemed like everyone was driving a Saturn (someone drives a Saturn). Ions, Vues, whatevers of all colors, but not the one someone drives.

Bummer!

So, someone, you’re it!

(turns out they weren’t driving it today anyway)

=====

I’m in the Language Lab now. I have Mom’s van because my oldest son decided he’d rather go over to his aunt and uncle’s house to download music to his itty bitty iPod than take me home. So I’m inconveniencing Mom because of Daniel’s foolishness.

Oh lucky me!

So, my day hasn’t gone so well. But, after all, it IS Monday.

=====

I wonder if I’ll get my tags in the mail today.

I hope so, I’ve only been waiting on them a month now.

That’s all from where I sit.
