Serpentine belt… March 9, 2008
It’s not a new fashion trend, it’s a part in a car’s engine.
And, it’s what’s wrong with Mom’s van. The Serpentine belt is damaged, causing a loud banging under the hood.
It first started happening on Saturday, when I was driving the van to my apartment. I pulled off the side of the road thinking that something serious was wrong. I ended up calling Dean, who was with Jeff at the Tag Agency getting his motorcycle’s title transfered over to him from the previous owner (I thought he’d already done this months ago when he bought the stupid thing). Dean would come and see what the problem was when they were done at the Tag Agency.
I was on the left side breakdown lane, and Dean suggested that I try and get over to the right side shoulder. I said I would and started up the van when… the noise stopped as suddenly as it came.
I called Dean back and told him the noise stopped and that I was proceeding to my apartment.
So all the rest of Saturday and the first part of Sunday, the van was behaving itself. Then, this morning, it happened again. Daniel was supposed to look at it before he went to work, but he conveniently forgot until it was time for him to go to work. So we had to wait until Jeff came home from work, and he knew what the problem was. A call to Dean came with the advice to not drive the van, and he’d look into taking it in for repairs.
So Mom is going to be without her van for a few days. A prospect she is less than happy about.
The whole reason I was borrowing the van was to get things done that I had been neglecting… like laundry (done on Friday), groceries (not done), taking pictures (not done), and paying bills (paid the phone bill).
The rest will have to wait until next week when I’m on spring break.
That’s all from where I sit.
