Pickin’ BlackBerry(s)

26 08 2009

I got my new phone and plan thru T-Mobile last weekend and all I have to say is that I freakin’ love my BlackBerry! It does all kinds of stuff I never thought a cell phone could do! And, I can access more of the web on it than I could ever before with any other web enabled phone. I don’t have unlimited calling, but I do have unlimited web access, instant messaging (like Yahoo! Mess-up-enger), text messaging and email. I have an actual email address thru T-Mobile connected to my BlackBerry.

It was a pain in the ass, however, to get my number ported over from Cricket. Turns out that the person I spoke with at T-Mobile about it misheard me give my phone number, and that held everything up. I spoke to several representatives (including one who had a Sarah Palin-like accent) who didn’t catch the mistake until I talked to a gal named Tameka. She asked me what number I wanted ported over, and when I told her, she saw the problem immediately. Wh0ever I spoke to initially transposed two of the numbers, and that was holding things up. Once we got that straightened out, my number was on the BlackBerry within four hours.

So, as far as my cell phone is concerned, all is right with my world… for now.

Daniel is on Facebook! This is the kid who declared long and loud that social networking was “lame” (a sentiment echoed by both Jeff and Scott at various times). I was the first person Daniel added to his friends list. Since then, he’s found, or been found, by several other people, including Marc.

This is going to be fun :)

That’s all from where I sit.

First week of school and other miscellaneous crapola

21 08 2009

(and no, this isn’t going to be a Friday only thing…I had to have something to write about first…)

The day had finally arrived: August 17th. Besides it being Tori and Dean’s 13th wedding anniversary, it was the first day of the fall semester at my particular institute of higher education.

My classes are interesting, challenging, and other than the Spanish class I have four days a week, are in my major. That took a bit of wrangling, but it got done.

The first week is called “Stampede Week”, where all the fraternities and sororities and other service oriented on campus organizations try to garner new members. And they all give out free stuff. On Wednesday, I got five free t-shirts, some highlighters, pens, notebooks, and other stuff. I may never have to buy another t-shirt at UCO for the rest of my tenure here if this keeps up. It’s all about saving money at this point.

I got my financial aid money and the only big purchases I’ve made are books and my rent. Yesterday I got my final paycheck from the morning job, and that was a decent amount of money I wasn’t really counting on, but will definitely come in handy for other things. Like the new cell phone and plan I’m thisclose to getting. I just have one question about it, and I can ask the representative at the store about that if and when I get there. I can’t get there on the bus, so I have to ask someone to take me there. Daniel said he’d do it, and I offered to buy gas for his car and buy him lunch. I don’t know what’s gotten into him lately, but his demeanor is less than stellar. Maybe it’s because he’s 25 and still living with his grandmother while all his friends are living on their own. I don’t know.

=====

Of all the girls on the UCO campus, I’m supposed to look for one who kinda looks like a famous actress? You know how many short, blonde and cute girls there are here?! It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack! Not only do I not know what she looks like, but I don’t know her name or anything…just that she’s dating the son of a friend of mine and attends UCO.

I’m not going there. There are probably lots of people I may know who go to school here that I don’t realize go to school here. Much less one I don’t know.

=====

Scott starts at Rose State on Monday… that is if he’s sufficiently recovered from mono. He couldn’t return to work at the grocery store where his brother is his boss without a doctor’s note declaring him no longer contagious. Having had mono myself some 30+ years ago, he’s lucky that he hasn’t had to quit his job and delay his attendance at school. Damn lucky indeed. I was in the sixth grade and I missed a month of school. Maybe treatment options have improved greatly since 1976.

Gearing up for school… and no “Big Chief” tablets in sight!

14 08 2009

I should find one of those “Big Chief” writing tablets and take a picture of myself with it and send it to someone.

I’m not going to Kindergarten for cryin’ out loud! I’m a junior in college now!

Took me long enough to get here… only 25 years LOL

And I know he’s teasing me anyway.

=====

My textbooks are ridiculous… when I went to price them the other day, the total came out to (I shit you not) $688.00! That’s was at the Barnes and Noble on campus. The most expensive book was almost $260.00! You’d think that it would be for one of the classes for my major, but it wasn’t. It was for my Spanish II class that meets four days a week!

Talk about your sticker shock! Last semester, my books were just under $500.00. What the hell happened between then and now? The majority of my books are used, but they still ain’t cheap!

=====

Good thing I don’t have kids in elementary school anymore, or I’d be soooo broke getting school supplies…

Yesterday, I went to WalMart to get notebook paper, and I got a zippered binder as well. That binder was $15.00! For fifteen smackeroos, the damn thing should be able to do my homework for me, too, in addition to holding said notebook paper, pens, pencils and syllabi for all of my classes.

Folks, even with my financial aid, I’m not freakin’ made of money! That binder better last the whole damn year!

Sheesh!

=====

Tomorrow is my last day at the morning job. I put in my two week notice on my mom’s birthday on July 31st. Part of me is going to miss that job (for all the bitching and moaning I did about it), and part of me is glad I don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to help open the store.

And if I want to (and I’m desperate enough probably) I could go back during winter break and work. I’ll have all semester to think about it.

That’s all from where I sit.

What’s the story morning glory…

11 08 2009

The thing that kills me about social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace is that some people who use them can either 1) lie like a rug about their lives, saying things are great when they might not be (who are they trying to impress anyway?); or 2) tell the world every little detail about their lives, even stuff that should stay private (oh the things I’ve read on MySpace!). So what’s the real story? What lies between the lies and the self disclosure? Your guess is as good as mine…

I just don’t know who (or what) to believe anymore.

And maybe I’m just nosy and I get what I deserve… God forbid that someone actually tells me the truth about anything anymore.

So… What’s the story, Morning Glory?

That’s all from where I sit.

I think I’ve been adopted…

5 08 2009

by a little black and white declawed female cat that has been hanging around in the breezeway of my apartment building for the last week. I think she may have been abandoned by the former residents of the apartment above mine. Today I left water out for her and she allowed me to pick her up. She licked my chin and purred as I held her. I even picked up a small box of cat food in case she came back…but it had been raining and thundering so maybe she’s hiding somewhere. Since she’s been declawed (front paws only) she can’t really be an outdoor cat because she has no way to defend herself. I’ll take her in and if I have to pay the pet deposit then I will. With Danforth Road just outside my bedroom window I’d hate to see her get hit by a car. I’m such a softie for cats…and it’s been nearly seven years since I had at least one cat in my life. Maybe it’s time. If I can’t have this one then maybe I’ll actively look for one of my own.
