This is who I’m going to see:
Ben Draiman is an American who has been living in Israel for the last 16 years, and this is only his second professionally produced song (the first one is called “Apathy”). Music is more a hobby and a passion for him (and an expensive one, as recording sessions are NOT cheap), and he writes what he likes. It’s like therapy for him, a catharsis, if you will. The fact that other people like his work enough to come see him perform (which has only been in Jerusalem thus far) serves as his basis to keep going.
The Austin, TX, show is his first in the United States. As of now, it will be his only performance here. I’ve known about it for months, but until recently, a date for it had not been set. It will be September 20th at Darwin’s Pub in Austin. There’s no cover, no drink minimum, but you have to be 21 or older to get in (it IS a bar, after all). Show starts at 9pm Central Time.
I even got “Soon Enough” on the Ed 90.1 playlist at school, and actually got to play it during my shift on September 1st. To debut a new song by an unsigned artist excited me to no end!
If you’re in the Austin area on 9/20, drop on by and take a listen. I think you’ll like what you hear.
If you can’t, Ben is on YouTube, and you can purchase “Soon Enough” and “Apathy” at bendraimanmusic.bandcamp.com.
I’m Stef and this is where it’s @ !~
