Some band wins an award and the press puts it on a website and allows people who are upset that THEIR band didn’t win in whatever category that they call the band that did win all kinds of terrible things. Music, last I checked, was supposed to bring people together, not tear them apart.
Tonight, Halestorm, a female fronted hard rock/metal band from Pennsylvania, won a Grammy for “Best hard rock/metal performance” for their song “Love Bites (So Do I)”, and in an article on a metal website, people commented that Halestorm was NOT hard rock or metal, that the so-called REAL metal bands nominated with them were more deserving, and some commenters even saw fit to use sexist and homophobic slurs expressing their displeasure at the Grammys choice in this category. I’ll bet you anything (hypothetically) that at least 90% of the commenters had never listened to Halestorm’s music, or have heard a few seconds of one of their songs and decided they didn’t like them for whatever stupid, uninformed, and ignorant reasons.
I, for one, am glad that these kids, who had been a band for a decade with the same line up, won a Grammy. I saw them in concert in 2010 and was impressed by their performance. Congratulations to Halestorm on your win. It is well deserved.
The haters can go take a flyin’ leap.
