It’s 2pm and all is… tired.

I still have to go to the store, do homework, take a nap…

I went to bed early last night, thinking I was going to get all this good sleep…but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I wake up to go pee and discover to my horror that it’s not something like 5am, but not even 1am!

After that, I tossed and turned all night long. Not even hot milk helped (plain ole hot milk is kinda boring, IMHO).

I rewrote my Radio and TV Writing assignment in my head all night long.

You know when your kids are growing up when Halloween doesn’t interest them like it once did. My almost 16 year old went to a party instead of taking his cousins around my mother’s neighborhood trick or treating.

And: most people watch horror flicks on TV or DVD on Halloween. I watched game 3 of the World Series… a horrorfest in and of itself!

Is it just me, or the officiating by the umpires just bad? It’s almost like they want the Yankees to win.

BTW… I hate the Yankees. They have two of the most overrated players ever: ARod and Derek Jeter. I don’t think either of them are anything to write home about, IMPO…

I was really hoping for a freeway World Series between the Angels and the Dodgers. Now THAT would have been worth missing Steve McQueen in “The Great Escape” for!!

Damn Oklahoma wind; and a life and career cut short…

I never had allergies before I moved here. Honest!

I’ve licked the flu, but now I have a sinus infection and it’s driving me up the freakin’ wall! All that pollen flying around and it feels like it’s going straight into my sinuses. The pressure in there is driving me nuts!

There are fires in Midwest City, up near Stillwater, and down south somewhere… and the wind is gusting to at least 50 mph!

And there is still rain in the forecast for Sunday. We could sure use it today… as in RIGHT NOW!!!

This is so sad…

Nick Adenhart, a 22 year old rookie pitcher for the Angels pitched last night and did very well. He had a great future in baseball. Two hours or so after the game, he was involved in a three car, hit and run accident. The car he was riding was hit. The driver in his car was killed, and he himself died at the hospital after surgery.

From Yahoo! Sports:

A female driver and male passenger in the Mitsubishi were dead when police arrived. Adenhart died at a hospital in Irvine as the result of his injuries.

Angels wept.

Jim Adenhart, Nick’s father, had watched him pitch the night before at Angel Stadium. By dawn, the ballpark empty, he was at Nick’s locker.

This is so damn sad and tragic. Because of someone else’s carelessness, this young man’s potential will never be known. He had a bright future, as I said. What a huge loss for the Angels and for baseball. Most of all, for his family. No parents should have to bury their child.

My condolences go out to his parents, friends, and teammates.

Rest in peace, Nick.

Sleep… or the lack thereof

I’m sleeping badly. For the last week or so, my sleeping patterns are waaaay off.

And I was doing so well with in the “getting enough sleep” department.

I awoke this morning at 5:30am. Supposedly to go to the bathroom, but then got back to bed and lay awake for FOUR HOURS! Finally I get up at 9:30 and putz around the house, watch the cooking shows on PBS, and finally crap out at noon.

I hate this. It irritates the heck outta me.

I slept for two more hours, then got up and took a shower. Other than feeling clean, I feel okay. Not really sleepy, just bleh.

I was watching horse racing (horse racing?! Geez!), but now I have the Red Sox/ Yankees game on (C’mon Pedroia, hit the damn ball!).

Yankees suck! (No hate mail please. I have a right to my opinion. A-Rod? Puhleese! Most overrated and overpaid player evah!!)

Sorry, lack of sleep talkin’…. NOT!!! hahahahahaha!

Uh-oh, what did I say?

I was checking my stats here on wordpress, and was floored by the number of people who have visited here today because of a comment I left on another blog.

That blog is 38 Pitches.

Yesterday, the owner of that blog, Boston Red Sox reliever Curt Schilling, made a lengthy post about what he thinks of the Mitchell Report that was released a week ago about players who took/are taking performance enhancing drugs (steroids and HGH). My comment, which was the first of over 600 comments, seems to have generated a lot of traffic over here.

To reiterate what I said over on 38 Pitches, I am JUST a fan. I have no inside knowledge about anything in regards to the current controversy about PED’s, who used them, who’s currently using them, who lied, who fessed up. Anyone who is a fan has just as much knowledge about this as I do. I know there are some people who keep track of stats for fun, but even they probably don’t have any more knowledge about this than I do.

I have been a baseball fan most of my life. I’ve been a Red Sox fan since 1999. In 2000, I saw my first and only game at Fenway.

Curt Schilling has a unique perspective on this because of his association with Major League Baseball. He is entitled to his own opinion, and on the post in question, he gave that opinion. He speaks his mind, and I admire that. He does a lot of good for his community and the several charities that he supports. Bet A-Rod can’t say that (and if he can, then mea culpa on my part).

So if you have come here from the link on my post, feel free to leave a comment.

After all, I’m just a Red Sox fan in Soonerland. 🙂

You should be dancin’… Papelbon!

Jonathan Papelbon’s going to dance… if you can call that jig he does “dancing”. No matter, the man’s going to dance, dance for the Red Sox faithful today at noon ET (11am CT… boo! I’ll be in class!) during the victory parade. I’ll have to catch it on the internet after the fact. I hope someone films the whole thing!

I wish I could be there!

Damn…

I just broke a promise I made to myself on Friday.

I wasn’t, WAS NOT, going to do something I do too much of. And then I went and did it anyway.

What the hell is wrong with me today? I can’t even keep a promise to myself.

In Comp II, I got back an essay the class was assigned that was due like three weeks ago. The prof was not very happy with us, because we seemingly didn’t grasp what was discussed in class. I got a “B” on mine, and the mistakes I made were stupid ones, and I should have known better.

Now, we’re writing essays comparing two poems with the same theme. A thesis statement and an outline are due Wednesday. I’ve written the thesis statement, now I have to do the outline, and that’s usually the hard part, whether it’s for an English Comp II essay, or for writing a short story. My outline for my unpublished novel was in the neighborhood of 30 pages. It took three months to write it.

So one for an essay should be a piece of cake, right? Not really. Just shorter.

Today is October 29th. I was thinking about this today while waiting for my ride. Seventeen years ago on this date, shortly after I learned that I was expecting Scott, I went to work for the Call Center That Shall Remain Nameless (aka “The Q” –a queue is a line, right?–) as holiday help. They liked me so much, they hired me on permanently, and I stayed with them for nearly a decade, until I left Virginia in July of 1999.

=====

Still happy that the Red Sox won the World Series! I wonder when the parade will be and will it be broadcast on the web? I’ll check the Boston Globe’s website…

=====

There’s Thanksgiving stuff out at the stores. I can’t believe it’s almost November.

=====

And after Thanksgiving, is Marc’s birthday (Dec. 5th). It’s NOT going to sneak up on me again this year. For cryin’ out loud, the kid’s almost 14, you’d think that by now, I’d know this.

I fixed a leak in the back tire with carpenter’s glue… and other nonsense

I was running around yesterday in Mom’s van, and someone pointed out that the rear right tire was getting pretty flat. I went to put air in it and it was fine… for a while. Then the same thing.

When I put air in it again this morning, I saw where the slow leak was coming from: a nail or something is imbedded in the tire and air is leaking out around it. I could actually hear it escaping! To take the nail out would ruin the tire, so I left it there.

Then I thought if I could somehow plug up the hole so that air would stop escaping for a while, then that would give Mom some time to get a new tire. So I slathered carpenter’s glue that I found in the garage on it and hoped for the best.

I drove back to my apartment, and it seems to have worked. I no longer heard air escaping from the hole. Time will tell if this will buy Mom the time she needs to get the money and get a new tire.

 =====

No matter how hard I try, the house key will not start the van, and the van key will not open the front door. I seem to be doing that a lot lately.

=====

Boston is up 3 games to none in the World Series with the Colorado Rockies. A win tonight will give the BoSox their second World Series in three (oops, sorry!) four years. Last nights game was a good one, but the boys from Beantown prevailed with the help of Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury– both rookies! Of course, Jonathon Papelbon closing and giving Dice-K the win is great, too!

=====

I am so screwed! I have a video project due tomorrow, and it’s not going to get finished in time. I could cop out and say the events of the previous week, both private and school-related, were to blame. But in the end, the only person I can blame is myself.

=====

Still working on memorizing that Dylan Thomas poem. I’ve got about half of it down pretty well, but I still need to work on it. I have no idea when I’ll have to perform it in front of the class. That’s not been decided yet.

=====

Better get back to the books.

Well, fine… be that way

Is it just me? Everything seems to irk me this week.

And last week.

And probably the week before that.

I’ve let the stupidest (is that a word?) things bug me lately. Of course there are the legitimate things that bug me, like the woman from the company that handles online payments for OG&E who was so patronizing I wanted to crawl through the phone line and wring her neck. There’s a reason it’s called “customer service”, and when you start treating your customers like they’re idiots, you won’t have that job long. Continue reading

Raining… again.

Hasn’t this town had enough rain for one year? There’s a big sink hole in the middle of Douglas Blvd. for cryin’ out loud!

Good thing that I don’t go down that way much.

=====

I’m a little ticked at Daniel right now. I ended up spending another night at Mom’s because Daniel rolled in after work sometime in the middle of the night. I went to bed at 1:30am and he wasn’t there then. He was supposed to take me back to my apartment. So now, I have Mom’s van today, and I have to return it after workstudy this evening. That means I will have had it all day, and she has things to do (though she doesn’t like driving in the rain).

=====

Boston has advanced to the ALCS, beating up on the Angels yesterday 9-1. The Yankees are still alive, so there may be some games with them, if they win. Yankees skipper Joe Torre (whom I actually like) has been threatened with the loss of his job if the team fails to get past their part of the division series.

=====

I’m going to try something novel today. I’m not going to contact anyone via the internet, unless it’s in relation to school or family (like I get a lot of IMs and email from my family). I feel like sometimes I’m a royal pain in the ass to some people.

=====

Today is the 8th anniversary of my father’s death. More on that later, if I feel like it. I think that maybe this year, I’ll keep my thoughts to myself.
