At 3:15pm today

Spring break begins.

Whoop. eee.

It’s supposed to snow/sleet/do some kind of wintery mix thing today. Probably not enough to close school, but you never know. I fully expect to go to class and take my two midterms, so I’m up late again studying.

I was up so late last night finishing my paper for my History of Journalism class that when I got home yesterday, I sat on the couch and fell asleep for 5 hours! I was lucky that I didn’t fall asleep in my Intro to Mass Comm class. Being yelled at by Dr. Kleeman to wake me up was not something I wanted to happen to me.

So I’m here studying for a little bit, then I’m going to get up in the morning and see what the weather looks like. I hope it’s not too bad. It’ll be another heavy jacket-sweatshirt-gloves-knit hat day.

Next week for Spring break, it’s supposed to be back in the 70s, according to the local weather prognosticators.

Figures.

😛

Making up for lost time

So I’m reading, writing, and playing catch up with schoolwork missed because of being out two days last week.

I’m pretty busy today because Chaz took me out riding around in the Rendezvous yesterday, all in the name of nice weather.

It’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Isn’t that nice? Rain for my 45th. Joy.

S0, if I seem a little preoccupied today, that’s why.

I’m going back to school on Thursday. Yay!

Well, it looks like week 3 of 16 at UCO will be able to be salvaged. I’ll be going back to my Tuesday-Thursday classes (Human Communications and American Lit), and the one class I have on Friday (Algebra). Missed both Intro to Mass Comm meetings, so that may screw things up on the syllabus a bit.

But, school will be open tomorrow! This staying home because of the weather is a real drag.

At least I got out today and got some stuff done.

=====

Just heard on the news that the peanut plant in Georgia where the samonella tainted peanut products came from knew 2 years ago that they had a bad batch, and kept having it tested until they got the answer they wanted (negative for salmonella).

Now, if you’re the families of the people who died from salmonella poisoning, you should be extremely pissed off! What was this company thinking in putting out products they knew were bad? Was it a cost saving measure? Laziness? Greed? Hopefully we’ll find out about that soon and shut these bastards down.

=====

I still can’t believe my friend Steve is gone. It makes me sad, because he was a really nice person and a great friend to me as well as to others.

I’ve decided, that when more information is available about funeral plans, that I’m going to send his family a card. If I can swing it (and the family allows it) I may send a small floral arrangement. I know I can’t go to Virginia to attend.

I’m still reeling from the news. It’s about all I’ve thought about in the last 24 hours.

Winter storm 09… with pictures!

Your intrepid wacky winter weather reporter Stef here with pictures from the Winter storm of 09
Winter storm 09

What we’ve got here isn’t snow, but some kind of frozen precipitation…
Winter storm 09- 3

More from my little corner of Edmond, Oklahoma:
Winter storm 09- 2

Winter storm 09- 4

Winter storm 09- 5

And it’s still falling here, though it’s supposedly ending later this afternoon or early tonight. Lord only knows what kind of road condition we’re going to have in the morning. Hopefully, much better than this so that UCO will reopen and we can get on with the business of learning.

I wish this stuff were snow, though. I can deal with that. As for the ice and frozen precip… it just serves to screw things up.

Bleh… kindasorta

That’s how I’ve been feeling since I got home from school today. I don’t think I’m coming down with anything (like the cold I just got rid of wasn’t enough?!), I just feel, well

Bleh…

I fell asleep on the couch reading a poem for my American Lit class, which was odd because I got a full eight hours of sleep last night (eight hours in a row, no less!). It could be the cold weather. That tends to take a lot out of me and makes me feel sleepy.

Other than that, I have no idea.

It might help that if you want someone to visit you in a town that that someone doesn’t usually visit, you best provide a map.

Okay, so I provided the map. Someone has to decide if they are going to come visit.

I’m not holding my breath.

=====

Tomorrow, for sure, I have to go out and get these pesky errands done. It’s supposed to be pretty decent, weather wise, so I think that may happen.

Unless someone decides to visit. But since I know that’s not likely to happen, it’s off to run errands and other stuff in the A.M.

I’ve been cold all damn day long!

And at just past 7:30pm CST, I’m finally warm.

There was snow… a little bit of it. Not much to brag about. Mostly though, there was cold, wind, and not wanting to do anything but get home!

I was wearing my heavy jacket, a sweatshirt, a tee shirt, and jeans. Should have put a layer under the jeans, though. Can’t seem to find thermal underwear in my size.

I hope it either warms up soon, or it decides to stay cold and snow.

=====

I’d love to be on a nice, warm, tropical beach right now… with someone specific. I like cold weather, but the up and down temps are driving me nuts!

=====

I only have one class tomorrow. I could conceivably be home by 12:30pm. But, I might just go to that dollar store (Dollar Tree?) across the street from Walmart and see if they have desk calendars that start in January 09, rather than the ones that started in July of 08.

Pick up some groceries and supplies, come home, pay bills, and crash!

I want a cat.

=====

I was going to say something about this film I saw in Intro to Mass Comm yesterday, but I think it’ll keep til the weekend.

🙂 I wanna see you. How can we make this happen?

Snow…?!

It’s already going to be as cold as all get out, but if it’s as cold as they say it’s going to be, it might be too cold to snow.

Snow will make it feel less cold, unless wind is involved, then all bets are off.

It’s supposed to be 17 degrees in the morning, but not even getting out of the 20’s for a high.

Oh. Joy.

Better get out the heavy duty winter coat. I just wish Chaz didn’t have the hood for it at his place.

That’s all from where I sit.

Running around town trying to get it all done… and other flights of fancy

Didn’t even come close to getting it all done. For that, I’m going to need a car.

Um, Chaz…?

The bus thing, for things other than getting to and from school, really and truly bites the big one. Major grocery shopping is not possible when you have to carry everything on the bus (and believe me, I’ve tried it). Getting to and from anywhere that isn’t serviced by Metro Transit is next to impossible.

I’ll be forced to use cabs again if this keeps up. And with all the complaining I’ve done about the local cab company, I really don’t want to have to go that route.

All I did get accomplished today was to have lunch, get my hair cut and pick up a couple of things at WalMart. And that took three hours!

=====

It was a nice day today. It was around 75 degrees (in the middle of winter, no less!), a bit breezy and mild. Tomorrow, the bottom drops out and it gets cold again.

No wonder I can’t get rid of this cold! I start feeling better when it’s warmer then it gets cold and the congestion, sneezing, feeling like crap starts all over again. This is still the same cold I caught right before finals, so I’ve had it a month already… and the spring semester starts a week from Monday.

(Cue eye roll)

The weather outside is frightful…ly cold!

It’s 14 degrees here in Edmond this morning! We might claw our way up to 20. With the windchill, it feels like 1 below zero.

Last I checked, I was in Oklahoma, and NOT New England.

In Massachusetts, this would be one of those days that it would be too cold to snow. The wind will cut right thru you, regardless of how many layers you have on.

Personally, I think that if there were snow on the ground, it would feel warmer. Don’t ask me how that works. I think it’s a psychological thing.

There’s some town up near the Panhandle that has a windchill of 10 below zero!

I’m not going anywhere today unless someone comes to fetch me. There’s no way I’m walking two feet into this cold. I’m just now getting over the cold I caught a week and a half ago, I don’t want to make it worse on myself.

=====

There are things I need to do today, though. Damn!

=====

This would be perfect snuggle up on Big Blue weather. Of course, no one’s going to venture up this way unless they really, really want to.

There is someone I’d love to see before Christmas, but that probably won’t happen.

=====

I’ve had several friends from high school contact me via Facebook in the last few days. I had joined this group over there for my high school and its graduates between 1975 and 1985, and since I use my maiden name now (as opposed to using Jon’s name), several people have recognized my name at least and asked to be friends on Facebook.

I probably still won’t go to any reunions, though.
